Rigsafe SD ( Standard )

The Gen Ex RigSafe SD Generator is a unit suitable for use in an Onshore or Offshore Safe Area.

Gen Ex RigSafe SD Generators are typically standard OEM Canopied generators which have been modified to accommodate the minimum additional safety features as required for safe operation in Oil and Gas and Petrochemical Site Installations.

Standard Additional Safety Features for RigSafe SD Generators include the following.

  • Platform OR Control Centre Emergency Shutdown Interface ( ESD )
  • Engine Air Intake Shut Off Valve
  • Double Skinned and Braided fuel pipes
  • Certified Exhaust Spark Arrestor
  • For Offshore use- Certified Lifting Capability, such as DNV 2.7.1 Lift Crash Frame.

EQUIPMENT

The OEM donor units used for Rigsafe SD conversions are based on Weather Proof Sound Attenuated Canopied Generators using a “Rental Specification” Model.

The canopies are constructed from light gauge zintec metal which is powder coated. The canopies and some internal components such as the alternator have low Ingress Protection levels of IP21/23 and therefore such units are not suitable for long term use in the offshore environment where high levels of windblown rain or salt laden moisture content may enter the internals of the canopy.

For short term offshore applications of six to twelve months such units may be used, subject to the location on the platform where they will be situated.

These units may be further modified to accommodate a longer period of use in an Offshore or extreme environment

PLEASE NOTE

The use of an engine air intake shut off valve and spark arrestor does not mean this set is suitable for use in a Hazardous Area or any location where gas may become present.

These sets are as typically used by rental companies providing temporary equipment for use in Petrochemical or Offshore sites.

For Long Term Offshore requirements of ten years plus, Gen Ex Design can provide Project Specific Generator Packages designed to meet your exact requirements, for pricing and information on these please contact our sales team.

Rigsafe MD ( Modified )

The Gen Ex RigSafe MD Generator is a unit suitable for use in an Onshore or Offshore Safe Area.

The Rigsafe MD features our RigSafe SD unit, which has been further modified to allow for longer periods of operation in an extreme environment while providing additional client specific requirements.

Modifications can include

  • 24V DC Main Ventilation Air Inlet and Outlet Dampers
  • Two Stage Coalescor Filtration on Main Ventilation Air Inlet
  • Segregated Engine Combustion Air Intake with Coalescor Filtration
  • 24V Battery Isolator with remote operation and trip facility.
  • Alternator Filters
  • Additional Compartment Heating and Lighting
  • Fire and Gas Detection System integrated to Generator Control Panel including Safe Shutdown
  • Fire and Gas Extinguishing System.
  • Extended Service Interval oil top up tank with automatic oil level maintainer.
  • Remote Operation and Monitoring.
  • Modified Base frame to accommodate platform laydown fixing and structural layout.
  • Stainless Steel Hinges.

EQUIPMENT

The OEM donor units used for RigSafe MD conversions are based on Weather Proof Sound Attenuated Canopied Generators using a “Rental Specification” Model.

The canopies are further modified to raise the ingress protection levels through the addition of two stage filter coalescors mounted to the main air intakes, these filters minimize the amount of moisture entering the enclosure which extends the operating life of the internal components by reducing the corrosive effects of the salt laden air.

The canopies are constructed from light gauge zintec metal which is powder coated, therefore long term corrosion will still occur on the canopy externals.

Ultimately the Unit is not designed and manufactured for long term use in an Offshore Environment and the internal components are still of low IP ratings, however with these modifications the unit can be made more suitable for use in the operating environment.

For medium term offshore applications of two to four years duration, such units may be used, subject to ensuring doors remain closed during operation to allow filtration to operate effectively.

For clients medium term power requirements which do not merit the procurement of a project specific generator with long lead times and high capital outlay, these units provide a very cost effective method of providing a generator which will exceed the expected lifespan of a standard OEM generator operating in an offshore or extreme weather environment.

PLEASE NOTE

The use of an engine air intake shut off valve and spark arrestor does not mean this set is suitable for use in a Hazardous Area or any location where gas may become present.

For Long Term Offshore requirements of ten years plus, Gen Ex Design can provide Project Specific Generator Packages designed to meet your exact requirements, for pricing and information on these please contact our sales team.
