Unmanned Installations and Decommissioning

Gen Ex offers two generator solutions for the applications of unmanned platform use, these sets are also suitable for long term decommissioning applications which require Duty / Standby operation with advanced telemetry and remote functionality.

For short to medium term applications of two to five years we offer the Rigsafe MD solution which can be modified to accommodate extended service intervals and provide the control and interface that such operations demand. These machines offer an extremely cost effective solution with fast track delivery in comparison to a project specific solution.

The Rigsafe MD generator also provides a more robust product for the offshore environment compared to a typical long term “Rental“ based, standard OEM solution.

For longer term applications of ten years plus, we offer the Rigsafe PT solution, which can be designed specifically to meet the clients application and can accommodate extended service intervals of up to 2,000 hours*

Rigsafe MD – Case Scenario

A client requires a 100kW standalone, robust, duty/standby, power solution for their unmanned or decommissioning application, they have an expected platform attendance period of 30 to 45 Days and require a cost effective solution for a three year duration.

Typical Project Specific Packages will take in excess of 32 weeks plus to engineer and deliver, costs will be high due to engineering design and client approval process including SDRL/ VDRL requirements.

A rental solution for the application will use standard OEM machines which will not have been modified for the application. The standard machine enclosures will have low IP ratings (IP23/44) which will not prove effective for the harsh offshore environment. The high salt laden moisture content will quickly cause excessive impregnation of key internal components, such as the main alternator leading to early failure, down time and transportation costs for change out.

The Rigsafe MD Generator is modified to accommodate 750 hours between service intervals. The primary Duty set is run for 650 hours. Automatic duty cycling changes over to run the standby set for a similar period. This provides 100 to 200 hours redundancy capacity to allow a combined on site servicing period, so attendance can be extended to 1300 hours if required and without major modifications.

*2,000 hours service interval per set requires major modification of the engine sump base, so is only available for Project Specific sets.

The Rigsafe MD solution can be delivered with significantly reduced timescales and costs. These can be in excess of 50% savings relative to a Project Specific Solution.

Rigsafe PT – Case Scenario

A client requires a 100kW standalone, robust, duty/standby, power solution for their unmanned application, they have an expected platform attendance period of 30 to 45 Days and require a cost effective solution for a fifteen year duration.

Standard OEM products do not provide the materials suitable to withstand the expected lifespan duration in a salt moisture laden environment, furthermore the client demands adherence to their specifications and documentation requirements, with document review and approval by client as part of the contract process.

Location of operation may be in or near to a Hazardous Areas, thus requiring the use of ATEX, Class 1 Division 2 or IEC Ex compliant products.

Using our extensive experience we will develop the correct Rigsafe or Zone 2 PT solution to meet client demands, while fulfilling their documentary and legislative requirements.

Standard OEM donor products as used in the Rigsafe MD solution cannot accommodate the SDRL/ VDRL documentation or certification requirements typical of a project specific solution.
